chapter 2. say what?

Like I said in my 'oh noes!' post, I won't let my characters' obvious unoriginality stop me from working on my fantasy story. My failure as a writer has inspired me to write some more, so I've decided to post the beginnings of the looooooong awaited Chapter 2 to Rihinn's story. You read it here first on LJ! Wooo! I doubt I will post it elsewhere until it's actually complete. As always I am open to constructive criticism.
Before I get started, here is Chapter 1 - Fragments. Chapter 2 picks up right where I left off, pretty straight forward. :)
***Chapter 2 - Untitled
Darkness.
Only this time it was quiet, comfortable. A healing darkness. The kind that comes when both body and mind are too exhausted to worry anymore. Rihinn remained wrapped up in that wonderful place made of black velvet for many hours. There were no nightmares, no dreams of any kind to disturb his peace. Just a beautiful, blissful nothingness. He would have stayed there forever but the sun's cheerful morning light crept up along his cheek and over his eyes. The darkness brightened and the world came into existence once again.
He could hear birds outside in the yard. He could smell bread, or what remained of it, from the night before. His stomach rumbled. Rihinn knew he couldn't ignore his hunger for too long. He lazily opened his eyes and scanned his cottage to find that everything was as he had left it yesterday evening. Even the sheets and blankets on his bed were barely disturbed. He had slept like the dead. He lingered under the soft, warm covers just a moment longer before finally swinging his pale legs and feet over the side of the bed. He stretched his arms and back with a loud groan and a grimace on his face. Ouch. His muscles were still very stiff from having been bed-ridden for so many days.
Rihinn's grimace quickly turned to a smile once he felt the early morning sunshine dance along his bare back. He swept his long white hair forward over one shoulder in order to soak up a little more of the sun's heat...
Chapter 2*** to be continued. :)
:( It always looks so much shorter once you type it. I hope it was enjoyable anyways. This chapter should be considerably longer than the first (once I finish it XD) and it will have to be very heavy in the description department. I tend to forget that people in the real world don't live in my head nor can they read my mind. :P

An Enterprise-shaped cloud flying over the lake across from my house. Who needs to drive to work when I can hitch a ride in that?!
In non-spaceship news, I am doing a massive clean and purge of at least 50% of my belongings. I have collected way too much crap over the years and the problem is that I am very good at organizing it, which means I can't actually see how much I have until I start digging. And once I started digging...lets just say 0_0. I will be selling as much as I can on eBay before I eventually just get fed up and donate it back to Value Village (which is where I bought most of it in the first place...damn impulse buys at low low prices).
I feel like such a dirty hoarder...
Oh well, at least I skipped that whole appearing on 'Intervention' step, or worse 'Oprah' *shudders*. lol

I found the Mary Sue Litmus Test thanks to a post by nijibug. It seems my characters fail spectacularly! I mean, I was aware they were unoriginal, but I didn't realize just how much so until now.
The official results are:
Rihinn Ehvander scored a whopping 83 points. (ouch!)
Daegan Frayne is not far behind with 73 points. (also ouch)
Fhera is a borderline Mary Sue with 35 points. (Apparently an immortal psycho hermit woman is only partly unoriginal.)
I'm guessing both Rihinn and Daegan did poorly due to unusual eye colour, pretty hair and striking good looks (it doesn't pay to be beautiful, lol). Oh, and they both excel in their chosen fields, however not without effort, so that may have subtracted a few 'lameness' points there. Maybe they would have scored in the 100s otherwise, if that's even possible. lol
My story was doomed from the start, but in all honesty that won't stop me. :P I'm gonna keep on truckin' anyways. Besides, I never claimed I was a good writer.
Who is Mary Sue? Find out here.

I've found an old-school solution to my internet woes! I can't believe this actually works.

I was getting pretty pissed off with the rain and clouds messing with my mobile internet signal so I thought 'what the hell!' When tvs had bad reception you'd adjust the antennae until it was better. So I grabbed some crafting wire and made some bunny ears and to my shock and delight it not only gave me a signal but a strong and steady signal. Even on clear days the signal used to waiver from weak to slightly less weak. Not anymore! :D
Who needs tech-support? Not me!!!!

p.s. Happy Birthday Canada!

Curse you Mobile Internet Stick! It’s very difficult to apply for art jobs over the internet when your signal keeps cutting out because of the weather. It was working great for the first month, but now that it’s cloudy and rainy I might as well be back on dial-up. If only I could get normal highspeed like everyone else. People in the middle of the Amazon Rain Forest probably have better internet service than me.
Anyways, enough about that. I was emailed some very inspiring art today. This is just such a cool idea, not to mention well executed too. These two women make life-sized sculptures of horses out of driftwood.

I have a couple of days off in a row and I am planning on getting some art done myself. I am halfway done a piece of furniture I’ve been jazzing up. I’ll post a photo when it’s finished. Here’s a photo of a previous furniture project I did. I couldn’t handle its plainness anymore and I found some cool plastic wall decorations at a local thrift store. (I wasn’t sure what I was buying them for at the time, but I knew they would come in handy one day. :P) I thought they would look better as ‘plaster’ decorations and not ‘fake bronze’, so I added some moldings to the cabinet doors and bought some white paint and voila! It just goes to show you that no surface, be it wall, canvas, paper or furniture is safe from me!

p.s. Going back to my last post, I forgot to mention that one of the computer programs I use at work is called STARS (for reals, I’m not joking). I can’t believe I left that tidbit out.

I was having a very amusing 'Resident Evil' moment at my job the other evening. Anyone who has played the classic REs could probably relate to this.
I arrive at work for a short evening shift, which I normally use to finish up miscellaneous office stuff that I don't have time for during the week. Part of my job on these evening shifts involves needing access to the cash office (which is a closed/locked room).
I do not have my own key for this room. I explore the management offices to see if one the spare keys is hiding in a desk drawer. Success! I have acquired the pink clip set of keys. I proceed down the hall to the general office. The hallway is narrow and eerily quiet. Within the general office is the cash office. I must provide a pass code to turn off the alarm system before using the pink clip keys. Code accepted! Alarm is off. I use the pink clip key. I will now need the black ring keys to access the cash office for the remainder of the evening as well as the vacuum tube and the freight elevator. I pick up the black ring keys and exit the cash office. I return down the narrow hallway to the management offices and return the pink clip keys to the desk drawer for the next player to find. I double back to the general office to gather up some paper work and realize that I will need a large garbage bag to complete one of my tasks. These garbage bags and other supplies are located in the data storage room. I proceed to the data storage room which is around the corner from the cash office. Oh no! This too is a locked room. I must return to the cash office to retrieve the data storage key. Luckily I can skip the pass code part, I did not bother to re-arm the system. I use the black ring key and once again enter the cash office. I pick up the data storage key. I exit the cash office, turn the corner and use the data storage key. I enter the small cramped room and acquire a large garbage bag. Would I like to discard the data storage key? Yes. I return it to the cash office and pick up the mini computer (hand-held scanner) which is also needed to complete my next task. I now proceed down the hall past the management offices and into the stairwell to retrieve the shopping cart (which is where the workers on the sales floor deposit empty packaging left by shoplifters so that I may record the store's theft losses). I return to the general office with the shopping cart and use the mini computer to scan the barcodes on the empty packages. I record the necessary info into a binder already located in the shopping cart. I discard the empty packages into the large garbage bag. Task complete! I return the now empty shopping cart to the stairwell. I continue down to the main floor and head towards the stock room with the full large garbage bag. I make my way to the back of the stock room and to the trash compactor. I open the door and throw the large garbage bag in, then close the door again. Would I like to start the trash compactor? Yes.
I did of course use the vacuum tube and freight elevator for other tasks later on, but I am getting tired of typing. I think you get the idea by now anyways. :) My office jobs require keys and passcodes and all kinds of running around, but sadly I really miss shooting those pesky zombies. My imagination will have to do for now. :P

My day job is sucking my will to live and my energy to make art. I have all these things I want to draw and no time to free them from my crowded brain. I still have 2 days left to go, on an eight-days-of-work-in-a-row-marathon *sigh* (thank you very much short-staffed workplace). I am tired and cranky. I need a hug and a vacation and a job that makes me happy.

I haven't accomplished all that much art-wise this week, but I still managed to pick at my newest digipaint a little bit. I decided to make a timelapse of the process so far. It's mesmerizing and hours of fun! lol But in all seriousness, keep an eye on his left arm and hand in particular, you can really see the veins pop out. :) Wow, this painting sure was ugly at first. I am glad he is starting to look more like the Rihinn we all know and love.
That's all for today folks.

Lots of crazy things going on right now, so I was in need of a good distraction and I went to see Terminator Salvation this evening. I read negative reviews for it, but I am happy to say that I totally disagree with them. Thanks to T4, I now have a huge crush on this guy:

I really enjoyed the character of Marcus Wright (played by Sam Worthington) and I look forward to seeing Sam in his next flick. Also, a big thumbs up to Anton Yelchin who did a great job as Kyle Reese and Chekov in the new Star Trek. I can't imagine how awesome that must feel to be in the two biggest movies of the year. :D
Anyhoo, I am working on some art, but have been a little busy and distracted this past week. I should have something to post soon.

A little doodle I whipped-up this evening. It's based off of one of my older artworks, which I totally hate now, but I still like the idea behind it.
This makes me think of that episode of 'the Simpsons' when Bart finds out his love interest is dating Jimbo. "You won't be needing this." *rips bart's heart out and throws it in the garbage* lol.
Poor Rihinn. Why do I torture him?
